Thanks to Networking Times for featuring a list of my favorite tips for committing to your fitness routine in 2016!
A new year is the perfect opportunity to wipe the slate clean and focus on the pursuit of your best body. Here are a few tips to ensure, as busy entrepreneurs, we move our bodies, eat the right foods, and move closer toward our goals each day in 2016.
1. Clean Out the Cabinets
If it’s processed, it’s probably not a part of a healthy nutritional program. But, if it isn’t in the house, you can’t eat it. So only stock your pantry with food that’s part of your plan. In our home, we prepare a balanced and healthy dietduring the week, and Saturday is the day we go out for a special treat, like a slice of pizza and some ice cream.
2. Workout as Early as Possible
The earlier you work out, the more likely you are to make the right food choices during the day. When you put in some hard work in the gym, you won’t be willing to give it all up for junk foods later in the day. The trick isovercoming ego-depletion: as the day goes on our willpower fades and we are more likely to give into temptation. (This is why tip #1 is so important.)
3. Sleep in Your Workout Clothes
That’s right. Getting out of bed when it’s cold outside isn’t easy, so on days I train in the early morning, I sleep in my gym clothes. Then I wake up, lace up, and I’m out the door. For women, this is a sports bra, t-shirt, and shorts/leggings; for guys it’s shorts and t-shirt. Totally doable.
4. Invest in Shoes and Gear
Exercise can take a toll on our bodies, especially if we haven’t been doing it regularly. To optimize your workouts and recovery time, invest in great-fitting shoes. I also get more excited about fitness when I look good. No need to break the bank—hit up your local Marshall’s or TJ Maxx for a great selection of designer fitness gear at discounted prices. After all, soon those clothes won’t fit!
5. Sweat
Yes, sweating can be gross, but it’s natural and the benefits are extensive. If you aren’t able to work up a sweat with exercise, saunas and steam rooms can be another great way to cleanse the body and sweat it all out!
